The Great Gilly Hopkins

One of my favorite books is The Great Gilly Hopkins.  I read this book over the summer of 2010 for a reading assignment.  Galadriel(Gilly) is a foster child going to her third home in less than 3 years.  When she finds out that she's expected to stay with a very religious woman, a young boy that can barely defend himself, and an old man, she tries to tell her birth mother how miserable she is.  But, the longer she spends with the woman, the young boy, and old man the more she likes them.  Will she end up with her loving mother or stay with her foster family? Please leave a comment telling me your prediction.  If you already read the book I would like to know if you thought the book would end the way it did or thought something completely different would happen.

  1. Dear Nikki,
I have also read The Great Gilly Hopkins. It was a good book. Gilly has spent all her life trying to find her mother. She never realized until the end that the people who live with you and care for you are your family.Good post.

  2. have never read this book, but i think i should because it sounds so interesting. i think that she will like her foster family much better because thats the family who she spends more time with and not her real mom. I bet shes really sad about not being with her real family and she has to saty with a foster family.
Why did she get a foster family?

  3. Well, Veronica Gilly got a foster family because her mother gave her up. But, she believes that her mother still loves her because on the back of the picture that Gilly has of her mother it says: Galadriel Hopkins...With love always,Courtney (This is her mother's name.)
